Sisters of Light is a reflection on the quiet strength we find in one another, whether that person is a sister by blood, a soul sister, or simply someone who has walked beside us through the different chapters of our lives.
With their eyes gently closed, the two figures share a moment of stillness and connection. One rests her hand softly upon the other's shoulder, a simple gesture of reassurance and support. There is no need for words between them; their closeness speaks instead of the comfort found in knowing that someone is there beside us.
Their flowing white hair suggests wisdom shaped through lived experience, while their contrasting gowns in muted rose and warm antique gold bring a sense of warmth and individuality to each figure. Intricate pointillism moves across the fabric and hair, with tiny touches of metallic gold catching the light and revealing themselves as the viewer moves around the work.
Beneath their figures, fragments of vintage music sheet paper remain softly visible, traces of memory and experience woven into the present. The layered, timeworn surface surrounding them reveals fragments of ochre, bronze, gold and softened earth tones, suggesting something beautiful that remains, and continues to emerge, through all that has been weathered and worn.
Sisters of Light forms part of Natalie Briney's 2026 collection Light Between Two Worlds, a contemplative body of work exploring thresholds: those spaces between past and future, fragility and strength, the seen and the unseen.
Each work begins with vintage music sheet paper, forming a subtle textural foundation beneath layers of acrylic paint and intricate pointillism. Warm parchment tones, muted ivories and softened, earthy colour create luminous, layered surfaces that invite the viewer to slow down and look more closely.
While deeply personal, Light Between Two Worlds speaks to universal experiences of change, vulnerability, endurance and hope. At the heart of the collection lies a quiet question: how do we move through life's transitions with grace instead of fear?
Perhaps sometimes we do so because someone walks beside us, offering friendship, understanding and the quiet reassurance that we do not have to navigate every season of our lives alone.
These works are not portraits in the traditional sense, but emotional landscapes, moments of pause where strength is found in softness and beauty emerges through transformation.
In Natalie's words:
“This body of work is about honouring the space in between. Where we are no longer who we were, but not yet who we are becoming. It’s a place of reflection, surrender, and light.”
