This work sits within Natalie’s 2026 series 'Light Between Two Worlds' — a contemplative body of work exploring thresholds: the quiet spaces between past and future, fragility and strength, the seen and the unseen.
In this work, the figure is held in a moment of quiet devotion. Her hands are drawn inward, her posture softened, suggesting a space of reflection, reverence, and inner stillness. It is not a moment of asking, but of listening, a pause at the threshold where something deeper is being felt rather than spoken.
The presence of the butterfly introduces a subtle sense of transition, a quiet companion to the moment, suggesting that even within stillness, transformation is gently unfolding.
Natalie’s figures exist outside of a fixed time or place. With flowing white hair and softened expressions, they evoke a sense of wisdom shaped through lived experience. These are not portraits, but emotional landscapes, moments of stillness where something internal is shifting.
Each work begins with a base layer of vintage music sheet paper, forming a subtle, textural foundation beneath the surface. Layers of acrylic and intricate pointillism follow, building rhythm, movement, and detail. The painting is then finished with oil, allowing softness, luminosity, and a quiet sense of breath to emerge.
Gold elements appear not as decoration, but as quiet markers of the sacred. The panel behind the figure suggests a threshold, a space of passage, illumination, and inner knowing. It holds the figure gently, like a doorway between what has been and what is becoming.
The palette is deliberately restrained, with warm parchment tones, muted ivories, and soft metallics, allowing space for reflection. Subtle glazes create depth and luminosity, inviting the viewer to slow down and engage on an emotional level.
While deeply personal, this work speaks to universal experiences — moments of reflection, quiet strength, and the unseen shifts that shape us. It is a meditation on presence, and on the gentle resilience found in stillness.
In Natalie’s words:
“This body of work is about honouring the space in between, where we are no longer who we were, but not yet who we are becoming. It’s a place of reflection, surrender, and light.”
Each piece offers a calm, grounded presence, an invitation to slow down, to breathe, and to recognise the quiet resilience that lives within us all.
