Natalie Briney Artist

Frida Kahlo (Green and Red Abstract)

2023

Acrylic on Canvas

Unframed

20.5 cm (W) x 25.5 cm (H) x 1.5cm (D)

Please note this canvas is only a single thickness and although it comes with a wire on the back and the sides are gallery finished, it would definitely look better framed. In the second 'in situ' photo here, I have added a frame to the painting so that you can see what it would look like.

'Considered one of Mexico's greatest artists, who began painting mostly self-portraits after she was severely injured in a bus accident as a child. She is noted for her intense self-portraits, many with her wearing traditional Mexican dress. Those portraits also reflected her battle with the human body (she suffered many miscarriages), death and of course her Mexican identity'.

This heavily textured Abstract Portrait of Frida, plays on a thick textured canvas base of moulding and crackle paste. I have used red and green as a homage to her home country's flag. I chose to focus on her head piece and hair, eyes and uni brow (the lips do wrap around the bottom of the canvas but in this painting you only see the top of her lips)  as a main part of this portrait, because this is one of the main reasons I loved her. Her personal artistic style was like no others and she remained firm in keeping this true to her, even when she left Mexico and travelled to the USA.

This original painting will NEVER be sold as a print, so you can enjoy the benefits of knowing that is a one off piece, especially for your home.

Signed on the back.

This piece is created on a 25mm frame wrapped canvas, sealed with fixative and a triple gloss coat, gallery finished edges and ready to hang.
